The Spelling Society

The Spelling Society have been clients of Press Contact since 2006. The coverage garnered by the Society during the period 2007 – 2010 has been consistently high in both broadcast and print media..
Sample campaign:
In 2008 The Spelling Society celebrated their 100th birthday. Press Contact was charged with raising the profile of the Society. Vikki Rimmer collated more than 150 news cuttings for the Society during the period June – September 2008.
To celebrate the Society's 100th birthday Vikki commissioned a piece of research on the current state of UK spelling. One thousand people were asked to spell 10 commonly used words.
The results showed that around half of British adults were unable to spell words such as embarrassed, liaison or millennium. Those surveyed blamed poor spelling on their parents and teachers.
The survey results were tailored for national and regional press and broadcast.
Vikki also took advantage of the news agenda including piggybacking off an article that was published by The Times Higher Education Supplement. This generated extensive coverage and debate.
Results:
More than 150 pieces of coverage were achieved including:
- The One Show BBC One
- BBC News
- BBC Breakfast
- Newsround
- Sky News
- Time Magazine
- All UK nationals
Press Association and Reuters
- More than 30 radio interviews including Raido Five Live, Radio 4 and BBC Wales
